Sorry for the long story, just had to tell you all about it! I'm honestly surprised his CPU still works! Now he can stream to his hearts content, as his poor little CPU isn't constantly throttling itself. I had him install an extra aftermarket air cooler we had laying around and BAM! 32C idle. Meanwhile, the poor CPU is melting in its packing. The fans on the radiator were happily spinning away, and the air coming off the fins were nice and cool. There was no way to know that this had happened without monitoring the CPU temps. Three hours later we discovered that his AIO CPU water cooler's pump had died. Lo and behold, his CPU is idling at 108 C. He has a 3rd gen i5 processor and a GTX 660ti, so he shouldn't lag when streaming CS:GO or League of Legends! His PC is a prebuilt iBuyPower system that he got this last Christmas.Īfter doing a little digging around, I decided to have him install Open Hardware Monitor to check his temps. I've got a bit of a story to back this up that just occurred last night! A buddy of mine called me around 9 PM last night and told me his PC was lagging while trying to stream. Plus, its an open source application with no ads or bloatware packaged along with it! I like to keep an eye on my CPU and GPU temps, as you never know when something may go wrong! I leave the gadget up in the corner of my second monitor all the time. This tool is easy to use, and allows you to display any of your system specs in both your system tray, or a simple on-screen gadget. Just wanted to suggest to everyone, with new and old builds alike, to use Open Hardware Monitor to monitor your system temperatures and voltages.
